NATO announces IBAN expands international audit partnerships

In recent months, Mr. Lepers has signed a series of cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding with the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Croatia, Latvia, Italy, Germany and Greece. Signed on behalf of IBAN with the heads of these leading audit institutions, the agreements reflect a shared commitment to strengthening professional exchanges, promoting audit excellence, and advancing transparency, accountability, and good governance in the public sector. The agreements were signed by Mr. Sébastien Lepers, Chair of IBAN, with: Mr. Ivan Klešić , Auditor General of the Republic of Croatia (13 January 2026); Ms. Sotiria Ntouni , President of the Hellenic Court of Audit (Athens, 10 March 2026); Mr. Edgars Korčagins , Auditor General of the Republic of Latvia (10 April 2026); Mr. Guido Carlino , President of the Italian Court of Auditors (Corte dei Conti) (16 April 2026); Mr. Kay Scheller , President of the German Federal Court of Auditors (Bundesrechnungshof) (19 May 2026) These partnerships are designed to facilitate the exchange of expertise, promote the sharing of audit methodologies and best practices, support professional development, and strengthen institutional capacities. They also provide a framework for closer cooperation among public audit institutions facing common challenges related to good governance, effective stewardship of public resources, and public trust in institutions. Beyond their formal significance, these agreements reflect IBAN’s determination to deepen its engagement with the international SAI community through practical and results-oriented cooperation. Concrete initiatives are already underway, including the participation of experts from partner institutions in IBAN training activities and professional exchange programmes. As an early example of this cooperation in action, representatives of the Croatian State Audit Office recently contributed to IBAN’s annual auditors’ training seminar in Brussels, sharing their experience and audit practices with NATO external auditors. At a time when defence, security, and public accountability are more important than ever, cooperation among audit institutions plays a vital role in enhancing the quality, credibility, and effectiveness of public oversight. By fostering dialogue and knowledge-sharing across borders, these partnerships contribute to stronger governance and more resilient institutions. IBAN extends its sincere appreciation to the leadership and staff of its partner Supreme Audit Institutions for their warm welcome, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening international cooperation in the field of public auditing.
