Mr Colomina took part in a meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council Permanent Representatives, chaired by Bahrain, and a meeting of Permanent Representatives of the League of Arab States, chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These meetings were an opportunity to exchange views on current security challenges, set out progress on NATO’s Southern Neighbourhood Action Plan, and present the Alliance's priorities for the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara. Mr Colomina also addressed the Ninth Biennial Meeting of States, a UN conference on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), where he set out NATO's support for efforts to prevent, combat, and eradicate the illicit manufacture, and spread of SALW. While in New York, Mr Colomina held bilateral meetings with senior UN officials, including the Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu; Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix; and Assistant Secretary-General for Africa Martha Pobee. He also met with the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil, with the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco, Ambassador Omar Hilale, and with the Permanent Observer of the African Union, Ambassador Mohamed Edrees.
