On 21-24 April 2026, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone visited Ukraine with the Chair of the EU Military Committee, and attended the 18th annual Kyiv Security Forum (KFS). The joint visit to Ukraine of the Chair of the NATO Military Committee (CMC), Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, with the Chair of the EU Military Committee (CEUMC), General Seán Clancy, underscored NATO and EU continued support for Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russia’s full-scale war of aggression. In Kyiv, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone held meetings with Ukraine’s political and military authorities, including the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olexandr Mischenko, the Deputy Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Yevhen Moisiuk, and the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, Taras Kachka. Admiral Cavo Dragone also met the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk. CMC praised Ukraine’s military and civilian resilience during one of its harshest winters, as Ukrainians endured Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on the energy grid and civilian infrastructure. “ Your bravery and resilience set a great example for us all. This is why, what is being defended here in Kyiv matters to all of Europe. ” In a meeting with the Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrsky, CMC and CEUMC were briefed on the evolution of the conflict on the ground, acknowledging that Ukraine continues to defend itself with courage, with Allied support making a real difference. Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone recognised that, while adapting rapidly under constant pressure, Ukraine is also providing valuable lessons-learned on modern warfare, including in countering drones and missile threats: “ Your courage has not only defended your nation; it has strengthened the security of Europe and the entire transatlantic community .” While in Ukraine, on 23-24 April, Admiral Cavo Dragone participated in the 18th annual Kyiv Security Forum (KFS) with the theme “ Darkness or Dawn: Is light ahead?”. In a panel discussion named “One for All or Illusions of Security?” CMC noted the historic achievements of Ukraine, highlighting that “ even after years of war, Ukrainians still reject the idea that insecurity can be traded for peace” . Admiral Cavo Dragone further emphasized the need to provide Ukraine and the Ukrainian Armed Forces with sustained support today, while looking ahead to a stronger collective defence for tomorrow.
