Click the button to return to the page you were on and log in with your new password. 27 March 2026 2 MIN READ From 25 to 27 March 2026, the NATO Military Committee visited the headquarters of the Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) in Ramstein, and the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control Force (NAEW&CF) in Geilenkirchen, Germany. The visit at AIRCOM headquarters provided the Military Committee with an overview of the Allied Air Command’s role in securing NATO airspace, across the whole Alliance and, particularly, along the eastern flank. Briefings by senior leaders focused on how a constant shield against both known and evolving threats is provided by integrated air capabilities. For the security of the air domain, the Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD) framework is instrumental: it includes NATO Air Policing, Ballistic Missile Defence, and vigilance activities, such as Eastern Sentry. This is how the Alliance keeps its skies and territory safe, at all times. Meetings covered the strategic importance of Allied Air and Space Power in maintaining collective deterrence and defence, ranging from the role of Agile Combat Employment (ACE) in enhancing survivability and resilience to the evolution of NATO’s IAMD. In Ramstein, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee (CMC) reiterated that “through initiatives like the Eastern Sentry, we are actively strengthening the operational bonds among Allies. This technical and tactical cohesion is the bedrock of our commitment for protecting our populations. Our message is clear: we are strong, against any threat, and united! And no nation will be left to stand alone!”. Lieutenant General Jason T. Hinds, AIRCOM Commander, emphasized the need for continuous vigilance through daily missions, operations, and training, stating that "Allied Air Command will continue to leverage national capabilities to adapt and address current and future threats, ensuring the defence of our skies now and into the future." The visit concluded at the NAEW&CF in Geilenkirchen, where the Military Committee was updated on current air operations, such as the enhanced Vigilance Activities along the eastern flank and the deployment to Konya, Türkiye. Discussions also touched upon future airborne early warning capabilities and plans for replacement for the current E-3A fleet. Briefings on logistical challenges and inspection cycles followed a firsthand tour of the current capabilities. Major General Andreas Korb, NAEW&CF Commander welcomed the whole Military Committee, saying that the visit “highlights the strategic importance of this unit, especially at a time with an increased operational tempo due to an increasingly challenging security environment.” On his way back to Brussels, CMC confirmed how “mutual trust, cohesion and reliability among Allies are the elements that ensure our collective resilience” as “in the modern warfare scenarios, trust remains our most critical strategic asset. While combat aircraft remain essential to maintain air superiority, their efficacy is guaranteed by a seamless integration in a multi-domain environment” he added.
