Click the button to return to the page you were on and log in with your new password. 05 March 2026 1 MIN READ Today (5 March 2026), the North Atlantic Council met in Ambassadorial format for an update on the security environment, in light of Iran’s continued and indiscriminate attacks across the Middle East and beyond. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte chaired the proceedings. NATO Allies strongly condemned Iran’s targeting of Türkiye yesterday and expressed their full solidarity with Ankara. The NATO Secretary General praised the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and all the Allied personnel involved for their joint efforts, which allowed Iran’s ballistic missile to be identified, tracked and successfully intercepted. This is a tangible demonstration of the Alliance’s ability to defend our populations against all threats, including those posed by ballistic missiles. NATO’s deterrence and defence posture remains strong across all operational domains. Our militaries remain vigilant, and SACEUR has and will continue to adjust NATO’s force posture, whenever needed to ensure the security of all Allies. NATO continues to monitor the situation closely.
