During his stay, he also visited the Defence Staff Headquarters and the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Spain Headquarters (HQ-NRDC). In Madrid, Admiral Cavo Dragone had the honour to meet with His Majesty the King of Spain, Felipe VI. The meeting showcased Spain’s steadfast commitment to the Alliance. While highlighting the increasingly demanding security context, Admiral Cavo Dragone emphasised the importance of NATO and Spain’s dedication in preserving the transatlantic unity. During his meeting with the Chief of Defence of Spain, Admiral Teodoro E. López Calderón, CMC praised Spanish Armed Forces for their commitment on NATO’s eastern and southern flanks. CMC also engaged with Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles, with discussions focused on the implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO Summit in The Hague, while underscoring Spain’s commitment to NATO. During his visit to the HQ-NRDC, CMC praised Spain’s responsible role as a framework nation, hosting personnel from thirteen nations at the HQ-NRDC. The Rapid Deployable Corps can be deployed for a wide range of missions including: disaster management, peace support, counter-terrorism, and high-intensity war fighting.
