UK Government says abstains on Item 7 resolutions

Key points

  • Abstained on three Item 7 resolutions
  • Affirms Palestinian self-determination; condemns Israeli settlements

TL;DR

  • Abstained on draft resolutions L.8, L.36 and L.37 under Item 7.
  • Objects to Item 7 as unfairly and uniquely singling out the State of Israel; will push for consideration under other agenda items.
  • Affirms support for Palestinian self-determination and notes recognition of Palestine in September 2025.
  • Condemns Israeli settlement activity; calls for reversal of settlement expansion in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and accountability for violent settlers.
  • Expresses concerns that draft resolutions must accurately reflect International Court of Justice advisory opinions and not go beyond the Court's findings.
